Kyubey by nervene Kyubey by nervene
:iconkyubeyplz:

LauraThief got me to watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica; it's pretty popular among the Internets now and I am still not entirely sure what to think about it (it's a series that you need to reflect back on when it's done to fully appreciate) - but at the very least it is different and interesting, so for that sake I'm glad I saw it. While my favorite magi is Homura, Kyubey has to take the cake as my favorite character, so he gets his own low poly tribute.

If you have seen the series please don't post comments that might spoil it for others who haven't yet (likewise if you haven't seen it you may want to skip reading any comments).

Here's to you, Kyubey / Kyuubey / Kyuubee / QB / etc. etc.!

Kyubey is one 256x256 map (with alpha for eyes/mouth) and the floor is another; images are print-screens from viewport, all shading/shadows are baked in both and textures are full-bright. Reflection via flip trick.

Please tell me that you would be willing to trade this model with me? I would make a papercraft out of it like the others in my gallery. Depending on what you decide I can make it a free download for other to built or I can just make it for myself, whatever you wish. Credits to you and links to your gallery and everything of course :) I already made a lifesize Kyubey in my gallery long time ago but I really want to make a cute, low-poly model too :) thank you

Nice. :) Looks just as creepy and unsettling as the Kyubey on the cartoon.

HAHAHAHA

Nicely done. He looks as menacing as ever. Even I, who have not watched the show, know of his rascally cuteness... although, I'm sure that's not the words that would normally come to mind

ofc we hate him... but how could u not love him for what hes doing for every sentient being in the universe, for all we know, your continuance of existence is the work of the incubators

incubator, saving the universe, one broken loli's soul at a time

now if ur a warlock, you wouldnt want to miss your chance to contract with this little thing

This kind of character lends itself really well to the Low poly style. I especially like the way the details are brought out purely by shadows in the body.

Kind of off topic, but if you liked that movie, I definitely recommend "Mind Game"

Okay, could somebody please attempt to explain the show's popularity? Judging from the pictures it looks like your average cutesy anime with magic-wielding underaged little schoolgirls making up the cast. Is this just a general trend connected to My Little Pony's success or is there something beneath all that?

I mean, I've heard of so many series like that, I'm rather intrigued as to why this gathers so much attention. Is it like with MLP, engulfing the viewer in the nostalgic secure happy place of childhood or something?

It looks like the average cutesy anime, but you pass beyond the third episode and you realize is not. Here being a cute underaged magical girl has its cost and its consequences, some [main] characters die and the story is more dark and complicated than it seems at first.

Even so, (at least for me) is not THAT great either :P as techno said, is interesting and different at the very least, but you know how the internet works, at some point somebody pays attention to something moderately interesting and then boom! it gets popular so more people start paying attention, so its popularity increases... and so on.... haha but no! it doesnt have ANYTHING to do with MLP :lmao:

Sounds like some interesting Deconstruction, I'll give it a try then. Thank you. :)

Haha, ah yes, the internet. It seems cats with captions never get old.

The phrase "Don't judge a book by its cover" was written specifically for Madoka Magica, despite existing long before it

What a weird thing to specifically write for something that isn't even a book! ;P

AHHH for some reason the style reminds me of like, PS1 spyro. I love the reflections you added on the top one and the black background.

This thing reminds me so much of a Digimon that was in the Digimon movie. :o

Maya + Photoshop, the techniques involved are extremely basic from a technical perspective and can be done with any 3D+2D applications, though
